How I heard about fD and why I'm here
I heard about fD when I was working in the journalist assistance program at the Committee to Protect Journalists. Todd Lester stopped by to tell us about fD and the potential for partnering for journalist safe haven placements.

Request for examples: Art and Transitional Justice

I’m beginning some research on the unique roles art spaces can play in transitional justice processes responding to past or ongoing human rights atrocities and am hoping some of members of the fD community will have some stories to share.

I've been learning this year what exactly is meant by 'Transitional Justice.' Basically it's a mode of engagement with to widespread human rights violations that has come to include things like truth commissions, trials on national international levels, repara… Continue

YATF Day 2: A focus on funding

Last night I experienced my first Egyptian thunder storm. One thunder clap literally shook my bed and also took out the electricity and our internet connection. Fortunately, by the time the first morning session started up, the lights were back on and the sun was breaking up the clouds.

Day 2 was full and I’m starting to experience the exhaustion that comes from the over-stimulus of so many new ideas and connections! Today’s sessions focused on International Public Policies in the Arab World an… Continue

YATF Day 1: A focus on Networks

I woke up this morning to a donkey’s braying and a rooster’s crowing, quite a change from the sound of Cairo’s traffic, which had been my wake up call the last two mornings. Now in the idyllic setting of King Mariout, a village outside of Alexandria where I’m representing fD in the Informal Meeting organized by the Young Arab Theater Fund (YATF).

This is… Continue

fD Holds 2-Day Directors Meeting in New York

Last week freeDimensional held a two-day planning meeting in New York. It was the first full staff meeting since fD reorganized its staff to include four part-time director positions covering executive duties, programs, communications, and operations. (Outside of these four roles, fD still depends on the work of pro bono designers, interns, and volunteers.)

The planning meeting, held at the offices of fD partner… Continue
